Merrillville to hold parade, tree lighting on Friday

MERRILLVILLE — The town will hold its annual parade and holiday tree lighting event beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
The parade will travel from Pierce Middle School, 199 E. 70th Place, to Town Hall, 7820 Broadway, where town officials will light the tree and kids can visit and take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Free horse-drawn carriage rides will be available in the parking lot on a first-come, first-served basis. Meanwhile, entertainment will be provided inside Town Hall, including excerpts from “The Nutcracker” performed by members of the Indiana Ballet Theatre. The Merrillville High School choir and a youth group from Southlake Pentecostal Church also will perform.
There will be refreshments, and crafts and other vendors inside Town Hall.
