A St. John teen has died after being struck by a car Monday night at 85th and Parrish avenues.
Around 5:36 p.m., Lake Central High School sophomore Jonathan Guzman, 15, suffered critical head injuries when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Crown Point resident Jeffrey Anderson, 50.
According to the Lake Central High School Scout newspaper, Guzman’s brother Dan, who is a junior at the school, suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred as they were walking home from school. Lake County Sheriff’s Police said it did not appear that alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. No citations were issued at the scene.
The Cook County (Ill.) Medical Examiner’s Office was scheduled to determine Guzman’s cause of death on Wednesday.
Guzman was transported to Franciscan St. Margaret Health Dyer before doctors decided to fly him to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. Guzman was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The accident is still under investigation. Lake Central made counselors available to students and staff on Tuesday.
