Woman charged for pointing gun
A 25-year-old woman is charged with intimidation for allegedly threatening and firing a gun at another woman earlier this year.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Brooke L. Kirklen, 1265 W. 17th Ave., who faces up to eight years in prison if convicted of the charge.
The victim told Sgt. Dan Callahan she went to a friend’s home and asked him to look at her car to find out what was wrong, the probable cause affidavit states.
While there, the mother of the man’s child arrived and became angry, making threats to hurt the victim, court records state.
The woman left, but returned and “raised a handgun, fired shots,” the affidavit states.
No one was injured.
Kirklen will be held on $30,000 bail when she is apprehended.
Four years for failure to register
Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Ross Boswell sentenced a Gary man to four years in prison for failure to register as a sex offender.
Montrell Ross, 28, who was convicted of child molesting in 2004 after pleading guilty but mentally ill, admitted he had failed to register between April and June.
Man gets work release for plea
A Gary man was sentenced to three years for possession of cocaine.
Derek McFarland, 39, will serve his time in the Lake County sheriff’s work release program after pleading guilty to the offense last month.
McFarland had been charged in May with two counts of dealing in cocaine, punishable by six to 20 years, after Gary police arrested him following undercover drug purchases. Those charges were dismissed under terms of his plea agreement.
