Chicago man gets 4 years for battery
Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Ross Boswell sentenced a Chicago man to four years in Lake County Community Corrections for battery.
Rassan Rasool Williams, 34, admitted he battered Miscah Borum, leaving her with swelling to her mouth and jaw, a knot above her eye, hair ripped from her scalp, a broken right hand, soreness to her body and a cut on her back that required seven stitches. The crime occurred on April 3, 2011, at Borum’s residence in the 4200 block of West 22nd Avenue in Gary. Williams punched her several times, causing her to fall into a glass panel before he dragged her, climbed on top of her and struck her several times.
Williams’ sentence was outlined in the plea agreement.
Habitual offender broke into business
Lake Superior Court Magistrate Natalie Bokota sentenced a Gary man to six years in prison for burglary.
Jerry Pellegrino, 55, admitted he broke into a Gary business on July 19 by prying open the front door, then stole the cash register and its contents.
Pellegrino will not be allowed to serve his time in an alternative program such as Lake County Community Corrections or sheriff’s work release. In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors agreed not to file an habitual offender sentencing enhancement.
