Five arrested at Aetna drug house
Five people were arrested Wednesday night when police raided an Aetna home that had been the target of a lengthy drug investigation.
The Gary Narcotics-Vice Unit and SWAT team raided 5238 E. 10th Ave., where they seized crack cocaine and a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine.
Two residents, Eric Benson, 25, and Aazalia Lawson, 22, were arrested. Benson is expected to be charged with dealing cocaine and Lawson with maintaining a common nuisance.
A 1-year-old child also living there was taken from the scene by relatives, but Lt. Thomas Ruzga said results of the unit’s investigation will be presented to child welfare workers.
Others arrested were Donvier Drake, 26, of 273 Arthur St., being held on pending charges of dealing cocaine; and Vernon Henninger, 5624 E. 3rd Ave., Chauncey Prude Jr., 25, of 1200 Clay St., and Alexander Morton, 20, 5886 Creekview Court, Portage, all charged with visiting a common nuisance.
Both Benson and Drake have been previously charged with possession of a controlled substance; Prude will be sentenced Dec. 13 for possession of cocaine.
