A fire in the back of a garbage truck slowed traffic on northbound Interstate 65 on Friday near the exit ramp for westbound Interstate 80/94.
Gary Fire Department responded to the fire at 4:45 p.m., according to Indiana State Trooper Mary Simcoe. The incident slowed traffic for less than three miles, but caused no lane closures. The fire was contained to the back of the truck, which was driven off the scene when the blaze was under control.
“The fire was contained in the back of the vehicle,” Simcoe said, “Traffic was backed up for three miles at the most, and they didn’t have to close lanes so that cars could go by while they put it out.”
