Another suspect ID’d in burglary
The second suspect has been identified in a thwarted burglary that began with a call from a watchful neighbor and ended with quick response by police who arrested one alleged thief.
William L. Rhodes, 39, who was arrested less than two blocks from the garage where lawn mowers and a leaf blower were taken Nov. 26, and Christian G. Franklin, 25, have been charged with burglary and theft.
Rhodes told Detective Pete Baum that Franklin had been living with him and his wife at 673 Harrison St. and Franklin owed him money, the probable cause affidavit states.
He said Franklin told him he had some items to exchange for the money he owed and both men went to an alley in the 700 block of Polk Street.
As they loaded items into the truck of a car, a neighbor called police with a detailed description of the suspects and the car.
Police arrived and arrested Rhodes, but Franklin was not in the car at the time. The stolen items were returned to the owner.
Probation for man who choked wife
A 27-year-old Gary man was placed on probation for two years for strangulation.
Dawan Davis must complete an alcohol treatment program and parenting classes while on probation after he admitted he choked his estranged wife on Jan. 1 during a physical altercation at a residence in the 5000 block of Cleveland Place, Gary.
Defense attorney Angela Jones told Lake Superior Court Judge Salvador Vasquez that Davis is working, has begun treatment at a mental health center and has been on home monitoring with no reported violations.
Charges of domestic battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting law enforcement were dismissed.
