Superstorm helpers honored by city
Three members of Crown Point Fire Rescue who participated in the East Coast recovery in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy were honored as the city’s Employees of the Month for December.
Firefighter/paramedics Mark Baumgardner Jr., Erik Schmidtt and John Sarver were among the 15 volunteers sent out in the first deployment of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security District 1 Task Force response team. The team arrived in Atlantic City Oct. 29 along with the storm. They were the first out of state response team to arrive in New Jersey, according to Baumgardner.
Mayor David Uran presented the award to the trio at Monday’s City Council meeting. The three then shared photographs from their experience.
