Robber named Valentine not a sweetie

Candis Valentine may have a sweet-sounding name, but the victims of her latest crimes probably have another opinion.
Valentine, 30, with home addresses in Hebron and the Black Oak section of Gary, is wanted on warrants for charges filed this month by Gary and Lake County detectives.
She is accused of breaking into her family’s home and stealing several items knowing she did not have permission to be there alone, court records state.
Days later, she asked to use a friend’s washing machine, but left suddenly. The friend discovered prescription medication and a handgun were taken during Valentine’s visit.
Valentine will be held without bail when she is apprehended.
On Oct. 25, Valentine’s relatives reported she apparently used a ladder to break into their home and ransack several areas of the house.
A witness told Lake County Detective Michelle Dvorscak that he saw her leave with a large bag that appeared heavy, the probable cause affidavit states.
Glass decorations, a watch and gold clock were taken.
Then on Nov. 3, a man reported he let Valentine into his house to wash her clothes, then stepped outside to speak to someone.
He told Gary Detective JerVean Gates he saw some of his son’s medicine dumped out on a bed, and pain pills and morphine had been taken, as well as a handgun with two loaded magazines.
Valentine was also charged for a Sept. 1 theft in Lake County and March 3 conversion in Hammond.
