A Gary man will plead guilty to 10 counts connected to an eight-month armed robbery spree he went on earlier this year and last year.
Nathan Elmore faces up to 25 years in prison on the counts, according to a plea agreement filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court in Hammond.
Elmore was charged with three other defendants in May in connection with a number of robberies starting in June 2011 at the Subway on Broadway in downtown Gary. According to court records, the men eventually hit 13 stores, including a Rally’s in Gary, a Tech Credit Union in East Chicago, a GameStop in Hammond, two KFCs in Gary and Merrillville and three Auto Zones, one each in Merrillville, Gary and Hammond.
Elmore was arrested after stealing $16,000 from the Tech Credit Union on Feb. 7. They escaped police after one of them fired shots at officers and then tried to gamble with the blue dye-covered money the next day at the Horseshoe Casino.
Elmore agrees to pay full restitution for the crimes and to cooperate with federal attorneys. In exchange, prosecutors will recommend a sentence at the bottom of the federal sentencing guideline range and possibly will file a motion to lower his sentence even more.
A change of plea hearing is scheduled for Dec. 19.
