Lake County Sheriff’s Dept. will continue service in Winfield

Updated: December 16, 2012 2:44AM

Winfield will continue to receive police service from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.

Last week the Lake County Council and Commissioners took action on consecutive days extending the contract between the sheriff’s department and the town for the next three years.

The contract raises the amount the sheriff’s department will receive for the coverage from $110,000 a year to $120,000 a year and has 3-percent per-year increases built in for each year the contract is renewed, Sheriff John Buncich said.

Winfield has a population of 4,383 according to U.S. Census data.

“We have a very good working relationship,” Buncich said.

Donald Samburg, Winfield Town Council vice president, said the relationship has so far been working very well for the town and officials are appreciated to have the opportunity to contract with the sheriff.

“The sheriff has provided wonderful coverage for the town” Samburg said.

Patti Van Til, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, said the contract provides full police services to the town.
