Escapee charged with theft, pot
The Miller man arrested Tuesday has been charged with escape, theft and possession of marijuana.
Garrick G. Thomas, 24, a resident of Miller Village apartments, was handcuffed in a squad car Tuesday morning after he was identified as the man who fired shots into the entrance of a building in the complex on County Line Road.
While police investigated at the scene, Thomas apparently climbed out of the squad car and hid in his girlfriend’s apartment.
Several police agencies joined in the hunt. Lake Station police found Thomas hiding under clothes in a closet.
His formal appearance in Lake Superior Court is Wednesday.
Miller pair charged with assault
Two Miller residents were arrested this week on charges filed in connection with an incident in May at Duneland Village.
Karl E. Jackson, 30, and Terrell J. Junigan, 32, are charged with criminal confinement and criminal mischief.
They allegedly assaulted a woman and covered her with red spray paint because she was involved with a person who was the former lover of one of the suspects, court records state.
A witness told Detective JerVean Gates that Jackson and Junigan broke the windows on two cars parked at Miller Village apartments, where Junigan lives. Jackson lives in Duneland Village.
Loitering man wanted in burglary
When Crime Suppression Unit Patrolman Donald Briggs saw men loitering at a Glen Park gas station, he discovered one of the men was a suspect in a recent burglary.
Eric K. Johnson, 20, of 4160 Louisiana St., was arrested and being held pending burglary charges.
Woman shot in leg near Delaney
A 35-year-old woman was shot in the leg as she returned to her Delaney Community Housing Development home Wednesday night.
Quiana Felders said she saw several people jump out of a blue Ford before she heard gunshots and felt pain in her leg.
Sgt. Lindal Hairston later located the Ford and arrested the occupants, who were being held while Detective Lorenzo Davis investigated the shooting.
