Man escapes cops while at hospital
A Gary man tried to escape police custody at Methodist Hospitals Northlake Thursday before officers recaptured him.
Jonathan Jaymes Caston, 24, was charged with escape, a Class C felony, and battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class D felony, along with two misdemeanors.
Police transported Caston to Methodist, 600 Grant St., to be treated. Caston told the officer that he needed to use the restroom, then he ran for the exit doors. Police and hospital staff chased him. Caston ran to the ambulance docking area where he fell. As police apprehended him, Caston continued to kick and fight the officers. He was tased, shackled and escorted back into the hospital.
An officer sustained injuries to a hand and finger as a result of Caston’s kicking and fighting.
