Two suspects in a Friday armed bank robbery in Winfield were apprehended by Lake County Sheriff’s Police.
Gary resident Michael DeSean Anderson, 24, and Crown Point resident Rachel Mauger, 21, were charged with robbery, a Class C felony, at the First Midwest Bank, located at 10858 Pike St. They are being held at the Lake County Jail.
Anderson allegedly displayed a gun to a teller around 11 a.m., then fled the bank on foot and got into a red vehicle. Mauger lived near the bank and was Anderson’s accomplice.
Detective Michelle Dvorsak and Deputy Commander Matt Eaton worked to apprehend the subjects, who were arrested on Monday. Bond is set at $3,000.
Sheriff John Buncich noted that the majority of the money taken in the robbery has been recovered as well as the vehicle used in the crime. This was an isolated incident, and the bank was chosen at random.
