Woman drives past railroad gates
A Gary woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday when her car was struck by a train.
Linda Myricks, 54, was driving south on Burr Street at 29th Avenue about noon when she disregarded gates that were lowered in anticipation of an oncoming train, police spokeswoman Cpl. Gabrielle King said.
Myricks’ car was hit by the eastbound freight train.
King said Myricks will be cited for traffic violations.
Armed man kept kids inside home
Police arrested an armed 38-year-old Glen Park man who kept five young children inside a home and refused to communicate with officers until the SWAT team forced its way inside the house.
Deameatrice Hope was arguing with another man at the house when police arrived about 9:42 p.m. Tuesday after learning that a disturbance was occurring at an address near 50th Avenue and Georgia Street.
Hope was being held while police investigate the incident. Five children under the age of 10 years old were found in the house. None of them were hurt.
Man wanted by four police agencies
A traffic stop Tuesday afternoon led to the arrest of Carl Hunter, 29, of Gary, wanted on warrants in Gary, Hobart, Lake County and Florida.
Members of the Crime Suppression Unit stopped Hunter near 19th Avenue and Clark Road about 3 p.m. for a traffic violation.
