Uran new NIRPC chairman

PORTAGE — Crown Point Mayor David Uran is the new chairman of the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission’s executive board. The NIRPC commission elected Uran at Thursday’s meeting.
Other officers include Hobart Mayor Brian Snedecor, vice chairman; LaPorte Mayor Blair Milo, treasurer; and Chesterton Town Councilman James Ton, secretary.
Uran replaces Geof Benson, a Beverly Shores Town Council member.
The commission approved the addition of three road reconstruction projects in its Transportation Improvement Program.
The projects are in Cedar Lake along 133rd Avenue at a cost of $805,000; County Road 950W in LaPorte County for $1.3 million; and a pending application for Samuelson Road in Portage.
