A Lake Station man will serve 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to an arson fire that killed a Gary woman and her 14-year-old daughter in the Lake Shore Dunes apartment complex. Trevontay Milsap, 19, was sentenced Wednesday in the case.
Milsap admitted in December that he helped co-defendant Rafael Peluyera start the fire by driving Peluyera to the apartment on July 25. Peluyera asked for the ride and told Milsap that he was robbed and beaten by three men. Peluyera wanted to seek revenge by burning their apartment.
Milsap picked Peluyera up after driving around a few minutes, and Peluyera then boasted of setting the apartment on fire.
The men were not in the apartment at the time, but one of their mothers, Bernice King, 33, and her daughter, Angel Harris, both died in the blaze.
Peluyera, who also pleaded guilty in the case, was sentenced Jan. 13 to 65 years in prison.
