Bremer chosen to fill Center Township trustee term

Updated: January 26, 2013 10:45PM

Former Crown Point City Councilman Paul Bremer was tapped Saturday to finish the term of former Center Township Trustee Eldon Strong.

Bremer was selected during a Republican caucus at the Crown Point Community Library in the first round of voting. Challengers for the position included Jim McShane, former St. John Township Trustee, and Kate Webster, a current member of the Center Township Board, according to Kim Krull, Lake County Republican Party chairwoman.

“He won the caucus and was sworn in by Sen. (Sue) Landske,” Krull said.

Bremer will replace Strong, who earlier this month was sworn in as the seventh district Lake County councilman to replace Rick Niemeyer. Niemeyer began his first term as the 11th district state representative.

Bremer, who is currently chair of the Crown Point Historic Preservation Commission, was a Crown Point city councilman for 25 years.

Bremer said he wanted the chance to serve as trustee because he enjoys the opportunity to help people that public office creates. When the position became open, he said he wanted to run.

“I will be specifically responsible for taxpayers’ dollars. I look forward to helping the needs of township residents,” Bremer said.
