Updated: March 2, 2013 6:13AM

A murder charge has been filed in Lake Superior Court against a Gary man accused of shooting two men in East Chicago in November.

Rashad Carlos Selph, 19, is charged in the death of Christian Taylor, who was found clinging to life in the doorway of an apartment building in the 4300 block of Baring Avenue. Taylor, who was wounded in the chest, was taken to St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and later transported to Christ Hospital in Illinois, where he died. Ashton Foxworth was shot in the upper right arm.

Police were called to the apartment building at about 2:20 a.m. Nov. 11. Witnesses told police Selph and four other men were at a party hosted by a woman when Foxworth and Taylor arrived. At about 2 a.m., the woman old the other men they had to leave, and an argument ensued between that group of men and Taylor, who was intoxicated. One witness told police he heard one of the men say, “go inside the car and get the tool,” referring to a gun. A witness told investigators that Selph said he didn’t “want to shoot him, too many people around,” the probable cause affidavit states.

Foxworth and another man were standing shoulder-to-shoulder when one of the men threw a drink on them. Foxworth told police he saw a flash and heard a gunshot and started running. As he began to run, he realized he had been shot.

Several witnesses identified Selph as the shooter from a photo lineup, court records state. Selph also is charged with battery with a deadly weapon and attempted battery with a deadly weapon.
