Pot, cocaine, heroin found in car
Two New York men have been charged with driving four kilograms of cocaine and 2.8 kilograms of heroin through Porter County on Jan. 23.
Carlos Martin Pena, 33, and Garry Rojas, 40, are each charged in Porter County Superior Court with two Class A felonies: dealing in cocaine and dealing in a narcotic drug, and they face 20 to 50 years incarceration for each of the charges.
Pena received a trail date of July 8 on Tuesday, but Rojas made the $60,000 bail bond and will have an initial hearing at a later date.
Police pulled over the car near the Portage toll plaza on the Indiana Tollroad after a sudden lane change without using a turn signal and initially found some loose marijuana.
They then found four packages of cocaine wrapped as a kilogram each and a 2.8 kilogram package of heroin in the silver Camry.
Man charged with dealing cocaine
A Chesterton man faces up to 50 years in jail for selling cocaine and a prescription drug he said was cocaine to a Porter County Drug Task Force informant.
The Porter County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Carlos Martinez Jr., 42, with Class A felony dealing in cocaine for selling a quarter ounce of cocaine mixed with Lidocaine for $360 on Aug. 29.
Martinez also sold about the same amount of plain Lidocaine for $400 on Sept. 14 and is charged with Class D felony dealing in a substance represented to be a controlled substance.
He faces up to three years in prison for that charge but wasn’t listed in the Porter County Jail automated system Wednesday.
DNA shows who home burglar is
A man currently held in Lake County Jail has been charged with the Sept. 3 burglary of a Portage home.
Police matched DNA from blood found at a smashed-out window to Jeremy LaSalle Roy, 22, who is charged in Porter County Superior Court with Class B felony burglary and faces up to 20 years in prison on that charge.
Police also matched his license plate to a car that someone saw parked outside the burglarized home with a woman sitting in it.
The son of the homeowners had left for less than an hour and came back to find the master bedroom ransacked and jewelry missing.
