Teen arrested
in car thefts
Police arrested a 19-year-old St. John man Sunday in connection with several car break-ins.
About 5:20 a.m., a witness told police he saw a man breaking into his vehicle in the 10300 block of Olcott Street.
Officers tracked fresh footprints in the snow that led to Allen J. O’Rourke, who was standing in the backyard of a nearby residence.
Police said O’Rourke had a backpack that contained several cell phone chargers, U.S. coins, wallets, several electronics and clothing. None of the items belonged to him.
O’Rourke has been charged with three counts of class C felony burglary and six counts of class D felony theft.
Police determined O’Rourke stole the items from several vehicles in the area. In three of the thefts, O’Rourke gained access to by entering unlocked garage service doors and stealing items out of the vehicles parked inside.
