GARY - A semi driver made his own parking spot when he failed to negotiate the curve on the southbound ramp from Interstate 65 south to Interstate 80 east Thursday night.
An Indiana State Police investigation showed that just before 9 p.m., a 2011 Freightliner pulling a box trailer driven by Leonard Lee Hall, 29 of Pace, Miss., didn’t make the curve on the ramp when Hall looked away for a few seconds. The Freightliner went off the road into the grassy area where it remained upright.
The semi was owned by Transport America Incorporated of Fort Wayne and was hauling 40,000 pounds of appliance parts, an ISP press release said. No load was lost.
Hall was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
The ramp was closed for a short period for towing of the semi.
