12 Munster students suspended over inappropriate cell phone photos

Updated: March 14, 2013 6:36AM

MUNSTER — A parent’s tip led to the suspension of 12 male students at Munster High School recently for sharing inappropriate images of girls on their cell phones.

Superintendent Richard Sopko said the photos weren’t taken at school “but boys had begun sharing them with other boys.”

Sopko said the boys’ parents were cooperative and the cell phones were turned over to the Munster Police Department, which is still investigating. Sopko declined to specify the nature of the photos, but one report suggested they were partially nude girls.

“These were some kids who made an incredibly bad decision,” said Sopko who said having the images on their phones violated school policy. Sopko said the boys are already serving the suspensions.

He said school officials would revisit the district’s cell phone policy with all students that calls for phones to be turned off during the school day.
