DEMOTTE — One person was killed Saturday in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 65.

Indiana State Police said a 2001 Ford Explorer traveling north on at 6:15 p.m. lost control at the 226-mile marker, about 4 miles south of DeMotte, for unknown reasons. The driver overcorrected and rolled over onto the driver’s side before skidding and rolling several more times and landing in a ditch.

The driver, whose name was being withheld pending family notification, needed to be extricated from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Northbound I-65 remained open during the investigation and for the removal of the deceased and the vehicle, police said.

Indiana State Police Trooper Carl Hall initially responded to the accident. He was later assisted by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, Jasper County Coroner’s Office and the Keener Township Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.
