Excise Police shut down Alexis Hall
An East Chicago tavern was shut down Friday night and cited for nine alcohol and fire code violations, including allowing in minors.
Indiana State Excise Police cited Alexis Hall, 4003 Alder St., for seven alcohol-related violations after they received a citizen complaint alleging illegal activities within its confines. When officers entered the bar around 9:30 p.m., they found three minors, including two 16-year-olds.
The minors were ticketed for being in a tavern and later released to family members.
Excise officers also cited the bar for failure to maintain employee records, employing an unlicensed bartender, not meeting food-service requirements, changing floor plan layout without approval, failure to display permit and purchasing alcohol from another retail business. Additionally, the bar was cited by East Chicago Police and East Chicago Fire departments for several code violations.
“The Indiana State Excise Police will continue to work with city and county law enforcement officers to prevent the procurement of alcohol by minors and take appropriate action when violations of Indiana law are found,” Superintendent Matt Strittmatter said in a statement released Monday.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Division assisted East Chicago and excise officers.
