The jury trial of a Lakes of the Four Seasons man charged with reckless homicide in the traffic death of a Lake County Jail correctional officer has been postponed until June.

Jason R. Cozmanoff, 43, had been set for trial in the case involving the death of Britney Meux starting Tuesday, but defense attorney James Thiros filed a motion to delay the start of the trial, which is expected to last two weeks.

Lake Superior Court Judge Salvador Vasquez rescheduled the trial beginning June 24.

Meux, 25, was killed and three other correctional officers were injured on March 6 when authorities said Cozmanoff’s sport utility vehicle struck them as they ran along 93rd Avenue near the Lake County Government Center in Crown Point. Cozmanoff then fled the scene.

Cozmanoff was charged with criminal recklessness for the injuries suffered by the other officers, and also is charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death and three counts of failure to stop after an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.

He has pleaded not guilty.
