Broken water main at Andrean stops after-school activities

MERRILLVILLE — A broken water main at Andrean High School sent students and faculty directly home after school on Friday.
The school released a notice to parents saying all extracurricular activities were canceled for Friday, due to the need by maintenance crews to shut down the water main. Only boys basketball and the cheerleading squad were not affected, due to traveling for the sectional semifinals game.
Maintenance staff at the school, when contacted about 5:30 p.m., expected the main to be fixed within hours.
Until further notice, all activities at Andrean were postponed. A notice will be released when the building can be used again.
