GARY — An alleged drunken driver led police on a 3-mile chase Tuesday morning on the Borman Expressway before his arrest.

Sgt. Ann Wojas said Ted E. Compton, 38, of Lake Village, was sleeping in his 2003 Ford Taurus at 12:19 a.m. when Sgt. Wanda Clay was eastbound and saw his car in a triangular area between the right lane of the expressway and the Burr Street entrance ramp. She said Compton was asleep and his car engine was running.

Trooper Brian Rubesha knocked on the window to awaken him and Compton put the car in gear and took off. Police pursued him for 3 miles until Compton exited at Grant Street and pulled over onto the shoulder.

Compton was taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail.

He’s facing three felonies — operating while intoxicated, resisting arrest and being a habitual traffic violator
