Cabbie says rider robbed him
A driver for Quick Cab claimed he was robbed by a passenger who implied he had a handgun during the ride from Chicago to Miller on Monday morning.
Joshua Byers, 19, a Glen Park resident, was seen driving recklessly on Lake Street near U.S. 20 about 9:30 a.m.
Police arrived and the passenger, Mark Snow, 32,of Gary, was still there, but appeared drunk, police said.
Patrolman Laria Crews arrested Snow for disorderly conduct and public intoxication because he kept interrupting as officers spoke to Byers. They took $81 from him, but did not find a handgun.
Byers said his fares should total about $81.
Detective Cpl. Jeff Hornyak is investigating the robbery.
Man grabbed cash from register
A man grabbed money from the register at Walgreens, 2500 Grant St., about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, then fled in a white minivan.
Police located the van parked, but with the keys still in the ignition, in the 2600 block of Adams Street. The car was towed to be processed for evidence.
A clerk told Patrolman Jeff Westerfield she was ringing up a purchase when the suspect reached over the counter, took some cash and ran.
The suspect is a bald black man between 6-feet and 6-feet, 4-inches tall, weighing between 240 and 265 pounds. He was wearing a gray jacket, red shirt and blue denim pants.
Detective James Bond is investigating the robbery.
