PUC to close Merrillville learning center
Post-Tribune staff report March 13, 2013 7:30PM
Purdue University Calumet will no longer offer classes at its Merrillville site starting in the fall, according to a release.
The university cited dropping enrollment, which decreased from 1,406 in 2008 to 476 last fall.
The Academic Learning Center, just east of Broadway at 9900 Connecticut Drive, was created as a location where students in southern Lake County could take freshman and sophomore classes. However, those students have since gravitated toward the Ivy Tech Community College system, the release says.
The closure is expected to save PUC about $280,000 a year.
