A tip from the Lake County Sheriff’s Report a Crime hotline led to two arrests and the seizure of $2,600, nearly 60 pounds of marijuana, a gun and a vehicle on Thursday in Hammond.
Officers of the Lake County Drug Task Force verified complaints left on the tip line and they initiated a traffic stop in Hammond, where LaPorte resident Nicholas Walters, 28, was arrested for possession of marijuana and dealing of narcotics, which are both felonies.
Inside Walters’ vehicle, police found seven pounds of marijuana, a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun, and $600.
Police also served a search warrant at 1638 Camellia Drive in Munster. The resident at that location, Christopher Biederstatd, 30, was arrested for possession of marijuana and dealing in narcotics.
Police discovered a gun safe containing 52.59 pounds of marijuana and $2,000 in cash. They also seized a 2010 Audi Q5 sports utility vehicle and an additional $13,614 in cash.
Biederstatd and Walters are currently being held in the Lake County Jail.
