Lake Station man wanted for murder found in Arizona homeless shelter

Updated: April 29, 2013 11:58AM

A Lake Station man charged last week with murder in the beating death of his wife was arrested in a Phoenix homeless shelter on Tuesday.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force developed information that Troy Shawn Meyers, 45, had fled to the Phoenix area around December. Deputy marshals in Phoenix tracked Meyers to the homeless shelter, where he was arrested without incident on the March 22 warrant.

Meyers was charged in the death of Shannon Meyers, who suffered a gastrointestinal hemorrhage from a lacerated esophagus, broken neck and blunt force injuries to the head and neck.

Authorities alleged Meyers beat his wife between Sept. 7 and Sept. 10, when medics were called to their apartment in the 400 block of East 28th Avenue after Shannon Meyers stopped breathing and began turning blue after spitting up blood for several days.
