Merrillville police are investigating a Wednesday evening shooting that left a 14-year-old boy in critical condition at an Illinois hospital.
Detective Ray Smith said police received calls that gunshots were heard in the 7500 block of Marshall Street at 8:35 p.m.
When police arrived, they found the teen, who had been shot in the head, lying on the living room floor of his family’s home. Smith said police believe the gunshot came from outside the house and through the window.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to an Illinois hospital. He was listed in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon, Smith said.
Smith said there are no suspects at this time nor description of cars in the area. Police are speaking to several neighbors, who heard the shots and contacted police.
