Hammond man admits strangulation
Lake Superior Court Judge Clarence Murray sentenced James Andrew Matthews Jr., 30, of Hammond, to two years in prison for strangulation.
Matthews admitted in court in March he was at the apartment of his girlfriend at the time, Kristen Longhi, on Dec. 30 in the 4900 block of Reading Avenue when an argument turned physical. Matthews admitted he put both hands around Longhi’s neck and applied pressure.
Matthews had faced two to eight years on charges of battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman and criminal confinement. Both counts were dismissed under terms of his plea agreement.
