Gary Common Councilwoman Marilyn Krusas will plead guilty to one count of tax evasion April 18.

The change of plea hearing was set Tuesday, one day after the plea agreement was filed in U.S. District Court in Hammond.

Krusas was charged last fall with not paying her federal income taxes since 1991 and then hiding $232,000 she received in 2009 to avoid paying her taxes.

She instead sent some of the money to a relative, used some of it to pay off other debts and kept about $60,000 of it in cashiers checks.

Krusas faces up to five years in prison on the charge.
