NWI students in to compete Friday in state Geography Bee

Several local students are among 100 finalists competing in the state Geography Bee on Friday at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis.

The preliminary round begins at 11:40 a.m. and the final round about 1:15 p.m., (both CST) at the IUPUI Lecture Hall.

The winner advances to the National Geography Bee on May 20-22 in Washington, D.C.

Local students participating include: Michelle Beck, Griffith Middle School; Christopher Beezhold, DeMotte Christian School; Hunter Boyer, Lowell Middle School; Andrew Feikema, Highland Christian School; Luke Gregurich, St. Patrick’s, Chesterton; Shawn Ives, Trinity Lutheran, Crown Point.

Also Michael Jonelis, Wilbur Wright Middle School, Munster; Ryan Krape, Taft Middle School, Aleah Markovic, St. John Bosco School, Hammond; Grayson Owens, Discovery Charter School, Porter; Chase Pickford, Chesterton Middle School; Dakota Savage, Hanover Central Middle School; Nathaniel Tobey, Franklin Middle School, Valparaiso; Nicky Waran, St. Mary School, Crown Point.
