Two Gary men sold nine guns and about a quarter pound of cocaine to an undercover informant, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court in Hammond.
Derrick Washington, 54, faces a possible count of selling guns without a license, and Brian Washington, 36, faces charges of dealing cocaine.
The affidavit claims an undercover informant who had bought guns from Derrick Washington twice before arranged with him to buy more guns and 4.5 ounces of crack cocaine, although he later increased the requested amount to 9 ounces.
The informant then drove on March 26 to Derrick Washington’s house at 4787 S. Adams St. where Derrick sold him an AK-47 and a shotgun for $2,500. He then followed Derrick to another house at 418 Johnson St., where eight men, including Brian Washington, were standing around with about 15 guns and two bulletproof vests. Derrick Washington sold the informant four guns and 4.5 ounces of coke for $7,500, after telling the informant he didn’t have 9 ounces.
The informant and Derrick Washington then went back to Derrick Washington’s house, where he sold the informant three more guns, including another AK-47.
Derrick Washington, who was arrested Thursday, was ordered held without bond pending a detention hearing set for Monday. Brian Washington was also arrested Thursday and ordered held without bond pending a detention hearing set for Tuesday.
