A Gary man has pleaded guilty but mentally ill in a 2011 homicide in Gary.
Maurice Danyeal Beckham, 31, admitted he was sitting behind Domonique Greenlaw on Nov. 7, 2011, in Greenlaw’s car, which was parked outside a residence in the 2100 block of Baker Street, Gary, when he shot Greenlaw in the head. Greenlaw, 25, died at the scene.
Under terms of the plea agreement, which was the same agreement that had been submitted in September and later withdrawn, Lake Superior Court Judge Thomas Stefaniak Jr., will sentence Beckham from 45 to 55 years in prison for murder if he accepts the agreement. Deputy prosecutor Monica Rogina and defense attorney Lemuel Stigler will argue an appropriate sentence on Friday.
