to RDA seat
Union official Randy Palmateer’s appointment as the Lake County representative to the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority has been approved.
Tuesday the Lake County Council unanimously approved Palmateer to fill the seat vacated by Lou Martinez of Griffith. Palmateer is business manager for the Northwestern Indiana Building Trades Council.
Earlier this month Palmateer also received full support from the Lake County Board of Commissioners. Palmateer currently sits on the Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety and is also a Democratic precinct committeeman.
Palmateer was the only person to respond to the county’s request for applicants for the seat.
Shop and office plan granted approval
Site plan approval was granted for a new 12,600-square-foot shop and office facility on two lots in the Crown East commercial development.
Planners granted Superior Engine Service approval of the site plan for the project that includes a steel constructed building with brick trim similar to the other buildings within the development. Superior Engine Service will relocate from 1145 E. Summit St. to 11055 and 11085 Virginia St. when the work is complete.
Nick Georgiou, manager for G&K Development, said the construction style will match the development’s covenants and the design of eight of the nine commercial buildings already there, which includes metal siding and brick wainscoting.
Last month the Crown Point city council approved a 10-year-property tax abatement for the project which is expected to cost $1 million. Jobs created by the expansion will be full time with a pay range of $70,000 to $100,000.
