GARY

Man sitting in car shot in shoulder

A Midtown man was shot in the shoulder late Sunday night while he sat in his car near his home.

Charles Denson, 62, told Patrolman Calvin Taylor he was in the 2300 block of Connecticut Street about 11:18 p.m. when he heard gunfire and the back window of his car breaking. He stayed low in the seat until the shooting stopped, then drove to safety. His 54-year-old wife called for an ambulance and police.

Denson was treated at the hospital for his gunshot wound.

Detective Cpl. James Nielsen is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information can call him at 881-4754.

Man arrested for punching neighbor

James Green, 32, was arrested Saturday after he struck a fellow resident of Miller Beach Terrace in the face.

Green pleaded guilty Monday in Gary City Court, telling court referee Itsia Rivera, “I was angry they took my clothes.”

“All he did was say hi. You can’t just hit somebody,” she told him.

Rivera ordered a psychiatric evaluation before he can be released.
