A Winfield man is being held without bond at the Lake County Jail after the Indiana State Police Organized Crime and Corruption Division arrested him on 11 felony charges related to selling insurance to elderly residents.
Marlon Leon Underwood, 39, was arrested in Michigan City after a warrant was issued for him on one Class C felony count of racketeering, five counts of Class D felony forgery and five counts Class D felony indentity deception. Underwood had been under investigation since July after a complaint from the Indiana Department of Insurance for possible insurance fraud, an ISP report states.
Underwood, whose insurance brokers license was suspended in 2010, operated American Freedom Financial Insurance first in an office in Highland and then out of his Winfield home. He sold insurance primarily to elderly Gary residents.
