Government center elevator not ready
It will take a couple months longer than expected for the new elevator at the Lake County Government Center to be operational.
“We are moving forward, but it is never as fast as we want,” said Commissioner Gerry Scheub, D-Crown Point, prior to an update of the project Wednesday during the regular commissioners’ meeting.
Bob Reeder, the county’s project manager, said workers had some challenges with asbestos removal regarding removing the old escalators. He said it will take two more weeks before the escalators have been completely removed and work on the elevator and stairwell can begin.
“Our intent is to open the Commissioners’ Courtroom in June,” Reeder said.
He expects the elevator will be installed and open the first or second week of August.
