Three coal cars derailed on the CSX rail road line shortly after 9 a.m. Monday morning, blocking traffic at 9th Avenue from Chase Street to just west of Madison Street.
A spokeswoman for the railroad said the 130-car train was headed to Chicago from West Virginia when the cars left the rails.
No one was injured in the derailment. Workers were making repairs Monday and the blocked crossings were expected to be “operational some time this evening,” the spokeswoman said.
Motorists cross at Clark Road and Madison Street.
