A Griffith man was sentenced to 18 months for theft involving a 2009 break-in that was solved through a DNA database match.
Shane Michael Washack, 36, admitted he broke into the WIND Radio tower building at 3000 North Colfax St., Griffith, where authorities found copper items from inside the building outside. Police found blood on the door to the building and analysis by the Indiana State Police found a match with Washack’s DNA.
Washack is to serve six months in custody, followed by 12 months on probation, under terms of his plea agreement accepted by Lake Superior Court Judge Salvador Vasquez.
A burglary charge punishable by two to eight years was dismissed.
