Third person found dead in Gary over holiday weekend

A 57-year-old man was found dead early Sunday morning in the streets of Glen Park. It was Gary’s third homicide in as many days as the July 4 weekend turned deadly.

The man, whose name has not been released yet, was found in the 5100 block of Georgia Street. Police had been on patrol in the neighborhood when they heard shots fired. The man was found bleeding and he had a short pulse, but he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

On Friday night, 19-year-old Antoine Taylor was killed when he was shot around 9:50 pm. while talking with two men in the 500 block of Delaware Street. A friend was able to get to him and drive him to Methodist Hospital Northlake for treatment, but Taylor was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m. at the hospital.

Bryan E. Cooke, 46, was found unresponsive in the 5000 block of Pennsylvania Street around 6:30 a.m. Friday. A resident who lives on the street found him lying there and called police.
