Gary man charged with attempted murder
Attempted murder and other charges have been filed in Lake Superior Court against a Gary man charged with wounding his ex-girlfriend’s brother five times.
Jermaine Carl Davis, 35, of 4048 Connecticut St., allegedly opened fire as Wilie Bailey was unlocking his residence in the 700 block of West 41st Avenue in Gary. Bailey’s sister and her friend had dropped him off at about 10:15 p.m. Aug. 22 and were waiting until he got inside when the gunfire started. Bailey’s sister and friend drove away when the shooting began.
Bailey was wounded in the legs, chest and stomach and remains hospitalized.
Bailey told police a few days before the shooting he saw Davis outside a gas station at 45th Avenue and Broadway. Davis was waiting for him outside when he came out of the business and was acting like he was going to hit him, Bailey told police, so he punched him first and then ran.
Probation revoked after arrest
Lake Superior Court Magistrate Natalie Bokota sentenced a Hammond man to 31/2 years for resisting law enforcement and a probation revocation.
Jesse Manuel Garcia, 29, admitted he refused to comply with a Cedar Lake police officer’s commands when the officer was trying to pull him over on Jan. 13. Once the car stopped, Garcia got back in the car and put it in reverse, but the car was stuck in the mud.
Garcia also unsuccessfully tried to pull forward. The officer had small cuts on the back of his hand.
Garcia received a three-year sentence for a probation revocation for theft.
