GARY — A man and woman were found dead inside a Midtown house Friday afternoon, police said.
The victims, Leviticus Dupree, 62, and his wife, Toshiba Dupree, 54, were lying in blood when officers arrived shortly after 2 p.m. at the house in the 2500 block of Delaware Street.
Leviticus Dupree was in the hallway outside the bathroom and Toshiba was in the bedroom of the couple’s home, police said. Both had been stabbed to death, according to police.
Officers found two bloody kitchen knives inside the house. Earlier this year, Jovan Jackson, 22, was shot to death May 22 as he sat in his car outside the same house.
Suspected drug activity has been tied to the victims’ home, police said.
Detective Alex Jones declined to comment on whether there were signs of forced entry and said police don’t know if anyone else had been in the house when the stabbings occurred.
The couple had likely been dead about 12 hours when police arrived Friday.
Anyone with information about the homicides can contact Sgt. Ed Jenkins at (219) 881-4746 or Jones at (219) 881-7477 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Duprees are the 46th and 47th homicides of the year. In 2012, the city recorded 43 violent deaths, and 32 by this date one year ago. Homicides are up more than 46 percent over this time last year.
