A Gary man was sentenced Friday to three years for possession of a controlled substance.
Daryl Satterfield admitted he had two plastic bags with crack cocaine in his possession on May 22 while he was in the 1600 block of Carolina Street, which is within 1,000 feet of Dunbar-Pulaski Middle School.
Deputy prosecutor Michelle Jatkiewicz argued for a five-year sentence, noting Satterfield has four misdemeanor convictions. Defense attorney Marc Laterzo said his client has no prior felony convictions and is remorseful for his actions.
Satterfield was given credit for the 156 days he spent in Lake County Jail and ordered released, with the remainder of his sentence served on probation.
