A semi rolled over on southbound I-65 a few miles north of the Lowell exit, closing the left lane for much of the day Wednesday.
Around 10:51 a.m., a semi driven by Robert Boutcher, 60, St. John, was pulling a box trailer full of mail heading south when he changed lanes.
A previous crash was off on the roadway on the right, which closed no lanes, and Boutcher told Indiana State Police he was trying to move to the left lane and began to slow down. However, a second semi was moving slower than Boutcher, causing him to steer to the left, lose control and hit the barrier median cables.
The semi came back partially to the left lane before going back off the road and hitting the median cables again. The semi rolled over onto its passenger side in the median, becoming entangled in the barrier cables.
Boutcher was taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point with non-life threatening injuries. He was cited for traveling at speeds too fast for conditions, according to a state police news release.
