GARY — A 19-year-old Gary teen returned to surgery Monday, a day after he was shot multiple times at a Midtown home.
Richard Dawkins, who was wounded in his abdomen, back and legs, ran from the scene at 2425 Madison Street shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday, then collapsed in the roadway as he reached 25th Avenue.
At the scene, Dawkins told police the name of the suspect who shot him, and ten hours later, Patrolman Nicolas Deem stopped a car in the 5100 block of Georgia Street and discovered the suspect, Arnell Davis, 18, was a passenger in the car.
Cpl. Stephen Otten, Deem and Patrolmen Arron Allen and George Hoffman assisted in arresting Davis and the driver, Tre McDuffie, 20. McDuffie was wanted on a warrant issued in Merrillville.
Davis was being held pending criminal charges, which Detective Cpl. Michael Barnes expected to present to the Lake County prosecutor Tuesday.
Police said Dawkins needed additional surgery Monday. His condition was unknown at the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus.
